Églomisé
The art of églomisé—the gilding and painting of the reverse side of glass—dates back to the 13th century and was originally mostly used on altars and in reliquaries. We can thank 18th century french designer Jean-Baptiste Glomy for the most recent revival of the art, who popularized the practice with his glass mounts and frames. Églomisé has since been used with varying amounts of complexity on applications such as decorative mirrors, clock faces, tiles, backsplashes, table tops, cabinet doors, signs, and accent panels.
